About the Client

Brightline was established to provide an innovative travel solution for the "too long to drive, too short to fly" market. The company builds easy, efficient, and eco-friendly rail routes connecting major U.S. cities. Committed to sustainability, Brightline offers a safer, greener alternative that protects the environment. The travel experience is enhanced with premium amenities, from in-station lounges to seamless transfers that complete the journey from station to doorstep. Since launching in South Florida in 2017, Brightline has served over five million passengers and currently operates service between Miami and West Palm Beach.

Challenges

One of the project's central challenges was the provision of safe, on-demand power and device charging for all train passengers. The solution required unobtrusive, durable, and reliable components built to withstand the constant vibration and heavy use inherent to a moving, high-traffic rail environment. Successful integration into existing seating and table assemblies was mandatory to maintain the beautiful interior aesthetics of the passenger cars.

How Lew Electric Provided Solutions:

Brightline incorporated our PUFP-SQ Series pop-up power units, which feature standard Decora/2USB (AC) receptacles and integrated USB charging. These fully ETL-listed, retractable units were installed directly into the passenger table surfaces. They offer convenient power access when needed, yet remain flush and unobtrusive when not in use. The durability and serviceability of our products make them an excellent solution for high-use public transportation settings, contributing to a premium onboard experience for customers.

Results

Lew Electric’s pop-up tabletop power solutions were instrumental in helping Brightline provide on-demand power to every passenger. Our non-traditional units pop up conveniently for easy access and remain securely hidden when not in use. The sleek stainless-steel covers were chosen to complement the other metal finishes throughout the rail cars. Furthermore, the fully ETL-listed and UL-compliant design ensured a safe and effective power delivery system in this unique setting. Finally, our commitment to using lead-free materials provided an environmentally responsible solution, aligning perfectly with Brightline's sustainability model.
